Tech editing services

Are you a new designer? Never used a Technical Editor before? Or don’t even know what we do?
Wanting a Tech Editor a little bit closer to home?
Then I might be what you are looking for!

I’m here to help pick up those pesky spelling and grammar mistakes, and help you perfect your layout or style. I can also help check your maths and make sure your charts match your written instructions, all before you send it out to your lovely test knitters.

I’m New Zealand-based, and am excited to be able to offer my services to local designers.
Get in contact and let’s have a chat about it.

What do I actually do?

Here’s the process you can expect from me as your Tech Editor.
To start we will have a chat about your pattern.

After I receive your pattern I will look over it and give you an approximate cost based on how long I think it will take me. Accessories and simple chart/lace patterns are going to take less time than complex lace, cables or a garment.

  • First I will look for spelling, grammar and instructions that might not be clearly written for a knitter to follow.

  • Then I will work on the maths, so I’ll look at things like do the cm’s & inches match, does the gauge and stitch count give the finished measurements, are the increased and decreases paired if needed and fit into the length given, does the lace repeat work in the number of stitches on each row.

  • If you have charts, I will check the written instructions match the chart to produce the same thing.

  • Once these are complete I will send you back the pattern with my notes for you to correct any errors.

  • I will then review the pattern again before you send it to your test knitters or publish.

Once we are both happy that there are no more edits to be made you will receive an invoice.

I support all my designers successes and will help you celebrate the release of your pattern!
